Taishokan House in shower
| When I was weeding out in the backyard, suddenly sky
has changed dark. It will rain soon. I moved gardening scissors under the
small arbor, and moved cushions also on the table where is center of the
arbor not to be wet. Soon drops of rain has changed to shower. Taishokan
House in such weather is also nice! Watching Nijo street at the 2nd floor,
or watching backyard at the arbor. Taishokan House is good for the shelter
from rain. |

Taishokan House in the night
| I was assembling my model railroad on the 2nd floor of
Taishokan House in last few days. There were many problems because they
have been stored in boxes for 10 years. Polish the rails, clean the motor
cars, and then the time is already past 10pm. Usually Taishokan House is
open only daytime, so neighbors might thought what's happening in the house.
How is the atmosphere of Taishokan House in the night? It's like this. |

Taishokan House in the old time
| Though Taishokan House is preserved keeping original
state, some modification had to be done. This house was selling fuel like
"Rentan" (re-formed powdered charcoal). Store and shop were separated
by the wall, or customers and buyers would be soiled with dust of "Rentan".
There was a warehouse in backyard, and plenty of "Rentan" were
kept in it. In the plan below, left is the 1st floor and right is the 2nd
floor. And lower figure is today's plan of the house. Please imagine referring
the plan below, what people were living in this house, how were they living
in the house. |
|
|
 |
Original figure is made by Tomita Architect & Associates (Tokushima city, Tokushima pref.).
Figure of today's state is based on the original figure overlaid with today's
layout. |
| "jou" means "Tatami-mat" and also is the unit of area of room
in Japanese house. The size of one Tatami-mat in Taishokan House is 1.8
square meters, and area of "10 jou" in the figure above is 18 square meters. Person who had such wide
rooms in the house in Taisho era was so so rich. (today also in Japan?!) |
|
|
| Photos below are "parts in the house" preserving "old time"
when this house was before Taishokan House. |
