Sarcophagus made with Awa's blue stone Female bones excavated from the sarcophagus A Knife wound has cured in her life

Niimi Remain was the place for people's life. Earthenware or milestones are excavated, but human bones aren't found, different from Inuyama-tenjin ancient tomb. But the excavation is with big anticipation, because interesting relics like a clay doll were excavated before. And more, beautiful earthenware were found this time.
Excavation work is so hard job in the winter season. Niimi Remain positions beside of a mountain and on the plains. So the job is done in that the cold wind is blowing. Mr. Iwamoto also says "It's so hard!".
Please don't catch cold. [Captain Alex]

The season is becoming like the fall, but temperature is still high in the daytime on a fine day, and sweat stand on our face. In Taishokan House, Water Fringes and Water Lilies in Taisho pond have finished, and the color of ears of Japanese Pampas Grasses around Taisho pond became the color in the fall. Please enjoy silent air of the fall at Taishokan House.
The plants in the center photo are Hydrangea. They were planted at north side of the warehouse before, and couldn't get sunshine. Then no flowers have bloomed. Hydrangea can get sunshine at the new place. Bloom of Hydrangea is expected next year.
It's said that if the soil is alkaline, color of Hydrangea flower is red, and if it's acid, the color is blue. But the fact is that the color of Hydrangea flower depends on not only "potential of hydrogen" but also "potential of aluminum ion" and "passed days from its bloom". What will be the color of the flowers? It's the enjoyment.

The hot days are still continuing, but the fall is coming closely.
The height of the sun becomes lower in the fall. Then the shade of the sun covers backyard of Taishokan House earlier. Dusk in the fall is filled with sadness. I love such backyard of Taishokan House filled with sadness.
Please visit Taishokan House in such time and have a cup of tea. If you spent your time at Cafe Nagomian in the dusk, after that, you will get power.
Left photo, Water Lily in Taisho pond at backyard of Taishokan House. Probably it's the last Water Lily flower in this year. Many Water Lily flowers have bloomed and have pleased us. Left lower photo, They are flowers of Cotton Rosemallow. The last flowers in this summer season. Big petals waving in the wind are elegant. Right lower photo, it's windmill made with empty can. We hang it under the eaves at the entrance. It's well rotating.
Japanese Pampas will come into ears. Looking forward to seeing them.

Niimi Remain Excavation Follow-up
- Komatsushima city, Tokushima prefecture -
Mr. Iwamoto who is attending this excavation has reported follow-up news
Excavated clay doll was the first found one in Tokushima prefecture

The last typhoon has run slowly and has fallen much rain in Tokushima area.
Niimi, where Mr. Iwamoto is living in, is close to Katsuura-gawa river.
Recommendation of Evacuation was announced to the people living very closely to the river.
The remain was covered with plastic sheets, but almost all the site was covered with deep water.
It took some days to pump-up those water, and the original situation was kept by the sheets.
Pump-up Can resume excavation soon Start excavation regardless of small water
Clay dishes were found Beautiful color has appeared again Rock boards of rock coffin
Long iron sword Iron arrowhead Clay doll
Length of this clay doll is 76 milli-meters. It's only a part from stomach to knee, and it's regrettable that the other parts haven't been found. Though you can't see it from the photo, this doll has trench at her buttock. Red Iron Oxide (natural coloring) was painted on her navel. How was her face? May be she was smiling in artless, I'm imagining so.
Excavation continues till the end of the year. It's so hard work to engage excavation in the hot season. But it's fun what will be excavated next. Mr. Iwamoto, thank you for sending this website many interesting photos. Please send again. And please take care of yourself against heat exhaustion. [Captain Alex]
* Jomon era .... B.C.E.145C to B.C.E.10C. "Jou" means (straw) rope, and "mon" means pattern in Japanese. Since the patter of earthenware made in this era, is made by straw rope.

Rainy season has come. It's not comfortable because of high humidity. But in Taisho pond in the backyard of Taishokan House, Water Fringes have started blooming. Rainy season is the season that many lives grow.
And also, Water Lilies are blooming. If you watch carefully, you find thin dragonfly or Killifish in the pond. Red fruit in the right photo below, is Downy Cherry. I ate the last one. Its sweet and sour taste is the natural relish, but children don't like it.
Water Fringes start blooming in the morning and closing afternoon. If you'd like to see, come by noon. Photos are by me and Mr. Shima. [Silk Tree]

Niimi Tumulus Excavation in Komatsushima City
Taishokan House is in Komatsushima city, Tokushima prefecture. And there is an area named "Niimi" at mountain base area, where is the opposite side from Taishokan House at sea side. Excavation work is on going here. Mr. Iwamoto who lives at Niimi and who is conducting this excavation work, sent photos. The photos were uploaded on Season's Letter Archive (November 17, '10). Many items were excavated and again, Mr. Iwamoto sent photos again.

Biscuit vessels Biscuit bottle Iron sickle
Rocks of grave hut's wall A part of Jasper necklace Grave
Exercise before job Let's start the job It's hard job, but pleasant job
isn't it? Mr. Iwamoto

This excavation is done by Tokushima prefectural education committee and Tokushima prefectural deposit cultural center. The cultural center says this tumulus was built on 6th to 7the century. Tumulus consists of old grave parts and small burial facilities. Benkeino-iwaya rock hut which was introduced on Ramble in Komatsushima, Story 21, is the grave of powerful clan. On this era, not only powerful clans but also powerful farmers built graves. The class of the buried person is recognized from the type and scale of the grave, and its articles in the graves. And those observation shows the construction the society of the era. It's so interesting, isn't it?
Thank you for sending photos, Mr. Iwamoto. Please grind away at the excavation job. [Captain Alex]
